March Outdoor Play

29th Mar 2021

We love getting outdoors to play! We introduced some new activities this term, one of which was whittling. The boys and girls found sticks and twigs around the school grounds and used whittling tools to remove the bark. Then they used string and pipe cleaners to create magic wands, Minecraft tools and lots of other lovely designs. This took a lot of perseverance and imagination. It developed the muscles in our hands and we had to learn about doing it safely.

Some of the boys and girls asked if they could climb a tree. We talked about how we could do it safely and decided that there should be one person in the tree at a time and an adult must always be with us. With that in mind, some of us have enjoyed climbing or swinging from the branches. We have learned that we must test whether the branch can hold us before we put our weight on it. This has built confidence and encouraged us to take manageable risks. We have also developed upper body strength and problem solving skills.
