P4/5 - Weekly News (21.1.22)
Our literacy focus this week has been on similes. We recalled what a simile was then created our own. As we write descriptively over the coming weeks and months we will try to incorporate similes into our writing. We focused on commas, looking at how they are used to separate items in a list and to make sentences clearer by grouping and separating our ideas. The children worked in small groups to using the iPads to research the Pyramids of Egypt. This links to our current topic as well as learning about who the ancient Egyptians were whilst locating Egypt on the map during our world around us lesson.
Numeracy this week focused on developing our mental maths skills to quickly recall addition calculations with P4s focusing on 3/4 digits and P5 working with 4/5 digits. Everyone progressed to reading and solving addition and subtraction word problems. As part of our 2D shape revision, the children used match sticks to create different shapes and recorded facts about each one on their whiteboards.
For art we started to draw / decorate a Pharaoh using a mixture of paint and coloured tissue paper. This particular art will take a few lessons to complete, I am looking forward to the end result!
We welcomed Cydonia into our P5 class this week. I have been so impressed with how welcoming and friendly all the boys and girls in P4/5 have been in helping Cydonia settle into his new class and school. Well done everyone, I'm super proud of you all!
